Game of Thrones Locations from Belfast: Which Tour Shows What?
Updated October 22, 2026 · 5 min read
If you want the filming locations rather than the sets, the Giant’s Causeway and Game of Thrones day tour is the one to start with: €28.38, 8.5 hours, rated 4.7 from 1,566 reviews, and its listing says it explores Game of Thrones filming locations. The sets and costumes are a different attraction, covered further down.
What was filmed where
Filming for the series took place at around 25 locations across Northern Ireland, plus the Titanic Studios in Belfast. The ones visitors ask about most, according to Visit Belfast and other tourism sources:
- Dark Hedges, near Armoy: the beech avenue used as the King’s Road.
- Cushendun Caves, on the Antrim coast: the scene of Melisandre’s shadow baby, set in the Stormlands.
- Ballintoy Harbour: where Theon lands on the Iron Islands.
- Downhill Strand, County Londonderry: the beach used for Dragonstone.
- Castle Ward, near Strangford in County Down: the farmyard used as Winterfell in the first two seasons. It is a National Trust property.
Castle Ward lies south-east of Belfast, the others are on the north coast, so no single day tour reaches all of them.
What the tours actually list
The honest limit of our information: the descriptions on GetYourGuide name some stops and not others. Read the itinerary on each booking page before you buy.
| Tour | Length | Price | What the listing mentions |
|---|---|---|---|
| Causeway and Game of Thrones day tour, 4.7, 1,566 reviews | 8.5 hours | €28.38 | Filming locations along the Causeway Coastal Route |
| Causeway and Game of Thrones day tour, 4.4, 7,800 reviews | 8.5 hours | €26.71 | Antrim coast sights, then the Causeway; the description names no filming sites |
| Game of Thrones and Giant’s Causeway day tour, 4.7, 713 reviews | 1 day | €29.21 | Carnlough Harbour, Dark Hedges |
| Game of Thrones and Giant’s Causeway guided tour, 4.6, 221 reviews | 9 hours | €41.73 | Full-day guided bus tour of locations from the series |
| Winterfell locations trek, 4.8, 75 reviews | 10 hours | €58.43 | Stark cloaks and swords, House Stark and Dunk & Egg locations, a former extra as guide |
Prices are per person. The most-reviewed tour in this group, the one with 7,800 reviews, is also the lowest rated at 4.4, and its own description does not promise filming sites, so do not book it expecting a Thrones day. Several day tours with no Thrones label stop at the Dark Hedges anyway; our Giant’s Causeway comparison shows which.
Locations or studio?
The Official Game of Thrones Studio Tour in Banbridge is the sets-and-costumes visit; read our guide to it. The locations are the landscapes, mostly empty of props. Fans who want both need two days. If you only have one, pick by what you want to see: costumes and sets, studio; coast and castle ruins, location tour.
Limits to know
Many locations are ordinary countryside now. The Dark Hedges are reportedly closed to traffic on the road itself, and a location may be a short photo stop rather than a visit. If a Winterfell-style experience matters, the trek with the former extra as guide is the only listing here that says so, but with 75 reviews it has a thin record. Our pick
For most people, the first tour in the table: good rating, a listing that names the theme, and a price in the same band as ordinary Causeway day trips. Fans who want sets add the studio.
