Whiskey and gin tours in Belfast

Belfast has a small but growing drinks scene, and the listings here are tastings rather than long tours: whiskey at Titanic Distillers, McConnell’s and Hinch Distillery, a guided gin tour with seven gins and a cocktail workshop. This page ranks them by verified review count.

Good to know: Most of these are short, about an hour to two hours, and Belfast’s distilleries are young (Titanic Distillers is described as the city’s first working distillery in almost 90 years), so expect a tasting and a story rather than a day out. Review counts are low compared with the Causeway or Titanic listings, which says more about how new the offers are than about their quality. Whiskey is also a stop on a few coach days, but those are Causeway tours first.

Frequently asked questions

Is a Giant's Causeway day trip from Belfast worth it?

For most visitors it is the best day out from the city. The coast is about an hour and a quarter by road, and the coach tours run from roughly seven to nine and a half hours with stops such as Dunluce Castle, the Dark Hedges and Bushmills. The price is low compared with the day it fills. The catch is time at the stones: the more stops a tour lists, the less of it you get, so a half-day that only does the Causeway suits people who mainly want the stones.

What is a Belfast black taxi tour?

A local driver takes you in a black cab to the political murals and the peace walls along the Falls Road and the Shankill Road and tells the story of the Troubles. Tours run from one to three hours, most about an hour and a half. Some are priced per person and some per group, so check the price label. The story is personal, so the tone differs from guide to guide.

Does the Titanic Belfast ticket include the SS Nomadic?

The most reviewed ticket on this site is listed as the Titanic Experience with a visit to the SS Nomadic, the last remaining White Star Line ship. Other listings combine the museum with a Causeway day, a hop-on hop-off bus ticket or a whiskey tasting. Read what each one includes before you book.

Can I visit the Game of Thrones Studio from Belfast?

Yes. The official studio tour is at the Linen Mill in Banbridge, about 40 km south-west of Belfast and roughly half an hour by road. Listings with a transfer from Belfast take about six and a half hours in total. The coach days that mix the Causeway with filming locations are a different product.

Can I do Belfast as a day trip from Dublin, or the reverse?

Both directions are possible: the train from Belfast to Dublin takes about two hours and a quarter and the direct bus about two and a half hours, with the train hourly and the bus every half hour. Day tours from Dublin to Belfast and the Causeway exist, but this site only lists departures from Belfast.

Do I need to book the Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge?

Yes. The National Trust limits how many people cross each hour and asks you to book a time slot in advance. The bridge closes in high wind, and pre-booked tickets are then refunded. A tour that names Carrick-a-Rede cannot guarantee the crossing, so check whether the bridge ticket is included.
